Shirley Ransom

To me, painting is an extension of my personality. Loving the outdoors, good friends, and a good laugh, I choose subjects which subconsciously reveal these interests. Creating a good painting takes persistence and hard work, but mostly it is fun.

Creativity is being inventive and original and I like to think of myself in that way. I use color as a tool, always being aware of shapes, darks and lights, warm and cool, and dull/bright. My medium is acrylic and collage, adding other mediums as inspired. Acrylic is forgiving and as it dries quickly, it is very adaptable to change. Collage has the same qualities.

Most often my paintings include people, animals, birds, or other little critters. A landscape is a beautiful and pleasing painting, but it is also a place for any of the above, and I enjoy incorporating the two.

See Ransom's work in the Buenaventura Gallery and on her website at www.vcnet.com/~r2smr/
