Pedro de la Cruz

INSPIRED BY the modernists, Pedro De La Cruz paints abstract interpretations by using acrylic on canvas in his own style.  He studied color and design, and also took figure drawing classes at Santa Barbara; but he is mostly self-taught.  He says his forte is in the use of color, which he layers with different hues of the same color to bring together the canvas.  By doing this to the paintings, he creates harmony and balance.  De La Cruz is independent; he feels he has to be contrary sometimes, to express what he feels.  He doesn’t follow the “standard rules”, because it only interferes with the true expression.  He strongly believes in inspiration and letting imagination take its course in his art.

De La Cruz was born in Mexico, his family moved to Santa Barbara in 1985. Ever since he was young, he was always fascinated by history and ancient architecture, but he was especially drawn to the ancient arts of Mexico, Egypt and Greece.

He ventures off to the city of San Francisco to visit the museums, and the many of the galleries around the city.  The same he does when he visits the city of Los Angeles.  De La Cruz goes and studies the modern art and the latest contemporary art by local and international artists. The velocity and zest of the big cities, with their big art movements, always encourage and inspire his desire to paint. The trips to Mexico certainly bring richness to his color, and designs. He has shown his work in Santa Barbara and the beautiful city of Ventura, California. He has been interviewed by several local papers and magazines…” I find it very exciting to being an artist…always finding not seeking”. says Pedro De La Cruz about finding inspiration to paint…”Life is an unlimited resource”.

De La Cruz really blossomed as an artist in 2002.  He believes that art dealers and art collectors are always seeking to find something new and unusual.  De La Cruz now lives in the City of Ventura with his wife Adela and their young Daughter Paloma Sofia…He Shows his works through Accolades  Gallery, and JT’s Salon on California St. Ventura…He got invited to Santa Barbara for the 3rd Annual Vinos, Tapas yArte on September 2008.
