John Carlander is a practicing artist and college professor who has exhibited widely in the US and abroad. His paintings are acrylic on canvas and oil on canvas as well. Prof. Carlander has taught painting, drawing and design at Westmont College since 1980. He was a graduate assistant and teaching fellow at Bowling Green State University where he earned his MFA degree. He taught at Ashland University, Ashland, Ohio, Concordia College, Moorhead, Minnesota, and Augustana College, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, before coming to Westmont. He has had 30 one-person shows, numerous 2-person and innumerable group shows. In 1999 John taught art at Minnesota State University, Akita, Japan. He has led many study tours with students to Europe and Mexico. Both figurative and non-figurative work can be found among his prolific number of paintings, that are in public and private collections throughout the US.
