Nancy Horwick is an artist and long-time Ojai resident. A former student of established British trompe l‘oeil painter Robert Walker, she has also worked out of Kim Smith’s studio in Ojai. She is a member of Ojai Art Center, SCAPE (Southern California Artists Painting the Environment,) and the Buenaventura Art Association. Mrs. Horwick teaches art to elementary grade students, among other subjects, and has shown her work in many places, including Ojai’s Art in the Park, the Ojai Art Center, the Harbor Village Gallery, and Buenaventura Gallery in Ventura, earning several awards.
“I am strongly influenced by 19th-century painters, in that I paint the objects, scenes, and people I find beautiful and compelling. There is sometimes too much emphasis today on the shocking or distorted. I am drawn to the classic old masters, as well as the elegance of twentieth-century painterly artists like David Leffel and Greg Kreutz. I am convinced that every person has a creative side, and try to help my students bring out “the artist” in them. Life without art would be dreary indeed.”
