I have worked in several mediums, most notably watercolor, but also gouache and colored pencil. At this point I am satisfying what seems to be a need for color and work in acrylic paint in a small format. Maybe I am comfortable with the small format because I am sort of a small person.
If there is a theme to my work it must be that I am exploring my firm conviction that life is abnormal and therefore quite interesting. Unexpected stuff happens to all of us every day. We all have situations to deal with and the sooner we throw out the notion of "normal" the better. The only dependable aspect of life is unpredictability. So I soak up observations of people, color , irony, the natural world and snippets of conversations and use those elements in my work. I love discovering the hidden stories of people, going beyond appearance, the surprising stories we all have.
I add lines of original prose to many of my paintings. I paint my frames, sometimes with pattern, oftentimes extending the painting onto the frame.
My landscapes are scenes that I have seen that are filtered through my brain and pop out into a paintings. The details are soft or nonexistent like that time of day just before the sun goes down.
I feel that my current work is the truest expression of my vision than any previous work I have produced. It is observation, experience and imagination blended together.
