Lawrence, was born and raised in Illinois. He studied oil painting under Victoria Huntley, was a fine arts major at Missouri State University and attended The American Academy of Art in Chicago.
After moving to Los Angeles, he was employed at CBS, where he became a set designer and later an art director, working on TV shows and feature films for the past 25 years. He was nominated for best art direction for an Art Directors Guild award in the feature film fantasy category for “Superman Returns” and “Indian Jones and The Kingdom of The Crystal Skull”. He has won several awards, including “Best of Show” and “Best Watercolor” in a Westwood, CA art show.
He has sold many paintings in Washington, Illinois and California. Has had entries in the ADG (Art Directors Guild) annual art shows “Art Unites” at Gallery 800. And the ADG “MiniWorx” art show at The Ghettogloss Gallery. At the “Art Unites” show titled "Women 2", one of his prints was purchased by actor Ed Harris. And entries in the 3rd and 4th annual "Art about Agriculture" exhibits at the Santa Paula Art Museum and is a new member of the Buenaventura Art Association.
