Kay Zetlmaier is an oil painter. Her work could be identified as a contemporary version of the impressionist’s pallet. Kay has been painting seriously for 25 years with porcelain techniques, watercolor and acrylic, and oil mediums. Oil painting is by far her favorite.
She is very comfortable with her environment on land or sea providing the subtext that can been seen in the subject of her work. Recently, she has become fond of painting interesting buildings, dogs and cows. Ms. Zetlmaier is an adventurer too. Painting en plein air during travels is a favorite means of expressing in real time for Kay. Also she brings back to life a voice of her journeys in her larger studio works.
Zetlmaier received her Masters in Humanities (painting project) from Cal State University, Dominguez Hills in 2004, Bachelor of Art and Secondary Teaching Credential from California State University Long Beach in 1973, and an AA degree from Pasadena City College in 1969.
She has had solo shows at Ventura City Hall in 1991 and The Buenaventura Art Gallery in 2008 and will show there again solo in December 2012.
Kay recently retired from teaching art and sculpture at Ventura High School and will pursue her professional art career full time.
Her studio is at her home, Ventura, California.
