Kathy Ikerd

I love being an artist. I find it exciting to collect paintbrushes, tubes of paint, mediums, various art supplies, a place that I call my studio, and the opportunity to be creative and express myself.

Besides making a contribution to the visual world as an artist, I find painting to be stimulating with its different challenges. It also gives me a sense of accomplishment when a painting is finished. I also view painting as a way of sharing one's inner self, a form of communication that is not spoken.

Things that inspire me are colors, textures, fashion, simplicity, sunlight and shadow, scenes, both indoors and out, that I feel will make a good composition, and often adding to that, my own heightened sense of color. I am most satisfied when a painting starts to take its own direction imparting a sense of individuality and emotion. Lastly, it is the human form with its many angles and curves that is often refreshing and most enjoyable to paint.
