My art is the product of my choice of media that I feel best expresses the essence of my subject. Line quality, color, texture, and composition are taken into consideration.
Using a variety of media allow me to work intuitively since “happy accidents” abound. I find that encaustic painting and fine art printmaking satisfy my requirements for variety. Chinese calligraphy and painting and Japanese printmaking are areas of interest that I have explored. I admire subjects from Chinese ink paintings: flowers, birds, fish, and the landscape. I am drawn to the symbolism and compositional style. Printmaking techniques are numerous and allow a wide range of expressiondrawing, painting, carving, sculpting, and transferring; the same techniques I may use in encaustic painting. I’ve recently expanded my exploration to include ceramics and art bookmaking.
