Jim Fitzgerald is a self taught Large and Ultra Large Format photographic artist, camera builder and teacher living in Ventura. A traditional photographer who uses large sheets of film, Jim’s landscape images are printed in the 1860’s process of Carbon Transfer. Carbon Transfer, is a highly labor intensive process that yields prints of the finest quality. The photographer has total control of the image tonality due to the blending of pigments and the manufacturing of tissue unique to the artists’ vision. A carbon printer requires 4 days to achieve a finished print that has a unique 3-D quality. Currently there are only about 200 carbon printers in the world.
Jim’s work was selected and shown in the Yosemite Museum as part of the Yosemite Renaissance XXIV. His work has been shown at the Kings Art Center, Hanford; The Mariposa County Government Center; and the San Mateo County Office of Education, Redwood City.
