Gail Lansbury’s many-faceted images are a body of work that ranges far and wide, recently taking her from the plains of East Africa to China and Europe and the beaches and forests of California, Oregon and Washington West Coasts.
Originally from Brooklyn, New York and Venice, California, as a photographer in her 20’s and 30’s she worked in black and white film, printing and developing her own work. Then, as she puts it “life got in the way” and as a single mother of two children she developed a successful career in real estate, serendipitously using her growing skills as a photographer to display and advertise her clients’ homes inside and out.
In 1997 Gail was able to resurrect herself once again to grow into the serious photographic artist that was her dream to be. Since 2001 she has made her home in Ventura. With a talent broadened by life experience her work can be seen at important galleries in the area, compositions in a variety of settings, uniquely “off the beaten path” satisfying both her skills as a photographer and her love of travel. Her subjects plunge into life in all its forms, be it inanimate, animal or human, sometimes urgent, often humorous, curious and delving, never judgmental, the artist in Gail seeking that common thread that unites us all.
