Koch and Milton each paint brilliantly colorful abstract visions, primarily in oil on canvas and often large, though their subjects and processes diverge widely. They will exhibit some recent works and some picked from their pasts in this show. It’s planned as sort of a grace note in their harmonious partnership, in celebration of love, art and their shared history. Longtime Ventura College art teacher Koch, who was a founding member of the nonprofit Ventura artists’ group (as well as many other local arts organizations), says the gallery’s intimate surroundings fit the “Together” theme well.

Art has always played a role in my life in some capacity, but it wasn't until about eight years ago that I was able to fully devote myself to my painting. I picked up a watercolor brush and never put it down. I love the challenge of deteail and of realism and enjoy painting the things that surround me in my life and in nature. My paintings have been described as vibrant and having depth. My goas has never been to make a statement with my art, but simply to paint objects that I find beautiful and that will give the viewer the same pleasure as well.

Borrowing from centuries of painting masters, Christine recreates the flowing and mystic rhythm of simple and moving Chinese watercolors.

Idiom [noun]: a group of words established by usage as having a meaning not deducible from those of the individual words
Camarillo Photographer, Robert Diehl, known for his location photography, moves into his studio to create a new collection of photographs for this exhibition. The photographs show a different interpretation of idioms and common folk sayings. In them we see literal interpretations using a play on words accompanied by real and surreal images. We see a box of salt beside a hunting knife stuck in a log become “A Salt With a Deadly Weapon” and a wreath with Ben Franklyn’s portrait scattered around it become “A Wreath of Franklin”. Robert’s photography usually contains in some form curiosity, humor and irony. This exhibit highlights his sense of humor and irony. Inspirations for the exhibition ranges from Andy Whorl’s Campbell Soup Can image to the offbeat humor of cartoon characters, Frank and Ernst.

At this time it is anticipated that the artwork will be predominately figurative in nature. It will show the diversity of people and subcultures in Ventura, not necessarily the view from the top but rather Ventura at its core and likely a little beneath that. They will concentrate on that which surrounds us, the seen and the unseen.

Symphonies of Light
July 17 - August 11
Reception:
Saturday, July 21
4 - 7 pm
First Fridays Ventura Gallery Crawl:
Friday, August 3
5-8pm
Light, is music to me as a photographer. It shapes my images in the same way a composer creates music.
I utilize very long exposures to capture the beauty, of the movement and sculpting qualities of light. This is how I see; this is how I compose my score.
My traditional Large and Ultra Large Format negatives are produced with historic and hand made cameras. My hand made prints are produced using the 1864 printing process of Carbon Transfer. This process is one of the most archival printing processes known. This is how I present my finished symphony. My prints are three dimensional representations of moments frozen in time composed with light.
Ansel Adams once said “the negative is the score and the print is the performance”. I hope my compositions are worthy and my performance is a visually rewarding experience.

The Sea and Everything In It
August 14 - September 8
Reception:
Saturday, August 18
4- 7 pm
First Fridays Ventura Gallery Crawl:
Friday, September 7
5 - 8pm
The title "The Sea and Everything In It" was taken from a verse in the Bible, Psalm 98: 7,"Let the sea and everything in it shout his praise!" In the Bible the sea is a symbol for many things, the unknown, all of mankind, etc. I hope this show will convey not only my love of the ocean and the lifestyle around it but also humanity's need for a relationship with our creator.

Home and Beyond
November 6 - December 1
Reception: Saturday, November 10
4 - 7 pm
I am a somewhat realistic painter, working primarily in oils on canvas. I do not wish to duplicate, rather, I try to paint the feeling of being in that place. I strive for a painterly style: where the viewer can see my gestures and brushwork.Colors and their relationships with one another are my passion. This show, hopefully, conveys my love of our local scenery as well as impressions of my travels.
