Pedro de la Cruz
"She Is So Strong Willed"
April 27 - May 22, 2010
Reception:
Sat., May 1, 4 - 7 pm
Pedro De La Cruz was born in Tijuana, Mexico. However, his family moved to Santa Barbara in 1985. Ever since he was young, De La Cruz was always fascinated by ancient history, architecture, and art. He has loved fashion so he incorporated that into his art as well. De La Cruz really blossomed as an artist in 2002 when he sold out in a group show in the city of Santa Barbara. However, it was in the City of Ventura that he has taken his art very seriously. He has produced a great body of work in his studio. He believes that art dealers and art collectors are always seeking to find something new and unusual. De La Cruz says, ”Life is an unlimited resource for art”.
This solo show is about the celebration of courageous women. “She is so Strong Willed.” Is everywoman who is strong and free to do as they want and what they want. The art for the show is contemporary and free spirited. No rule is followed and color is the forte.

"Deciphering the Human Experience
as a Visual Force in Paint and Print"
May 25 - June 19, 2010
Reception:
Sat., June 5, 4 - 7 pm
"Recently retired from 41 years of teaching within the Fine Arts, I have embraced the life of a full time artist. This has become my next celebration with Life. I have always been driven by the provocation of the human figure. Making images, for me, is born of something inherent in who I am as well as a need to complete a relationship with something outside of myself. Many of my paintings are narrative in nature, created within a layered dialogue, engaging our shared stories with compassion and sometimes, an intimate exposing. I see myself as a guardian with a need to complete a relationship with human issues that belong to everyone. It is my goal that my paintings become an invitation to experience awareness and an illuminated path to a celebration of the human spirit."

“Innocence and Experience
The Figure in Art”
June 22 -July 17, 2010
Reception: Fri., July 9 5 - 8 pm
My interest in figurative painting and drawing is meant to express the strength and individuality of each subject and their personal story. A colorful palette, energy in the markings of the pen or brush, an occasional reference to mythology and a lifetime of work in art inspire and guide my paintings and drawings.

Darleen Dewing
"Favorite Places"
July 20 - August 14, 2010
Reception:
Sat., July 24 4 - 7 pm
Deeply moved by the beauty of nature, Darlene was given the gift of artistic expression from a very early age.
Her passion for color and her use of pastels has allowed her to explore the complexity of the world around her. From the dramatic and plunging cliffs of the California coast, to the sublime stateliness of a lone lighthouse, Darlene uses pastels to capture the intensity and subtlety of scenic landscapes.
As a longtime resident of the beautiful Ojai Valley, Darlene has been inspired and encouraged by mentors such as Bert Collins, Jannene Behl, Doris Scott and Margarite Hardman.

Janet Black
"Synthesis: New Works in Collage"
September 14 - October 9, 2010
Reception:
Sat., Sept. 18, 4 - 7 pm
Synthesis implies a combination of elements in order to form a more complete view. Janet Black's images emerge from combining the elemental colors and shapes of paper, torn and layered, to convey a thought and share a vision. Paper becomes color, text or calligraphy become messages or abstract design elements, patterns become texture, layers fuse into figures. The whole becomes an exploration of its parts returning to comprehend it again as a single image.

Gail Pidduck
"A Place in the Choir "
November 9 - December 4, 2010
Reception:
Sat., Nov., 13, 4 - 7 pm
Known for her thoughtful images of fieldworkers and Ventura County landscapes, Pidduck has decided to depart from these subjects and return to some old friends with a new eye. Her first sales as an artist were of pencil drawn birds and animals and she has been feeling an interest in studying more about "creatures". Seeking to energize herself and her audience she will be working on a visual exploration of the playful lyrics of Bill Staines song, "A Place in the Choir."
She will be keeping a journal of her work as she did for her show "52", also at the Buenaventura Gallery, but this time, in keeping with the need to grow, the journal is an online blog.
