The opportunity to capture and preserve a moment in time is my motivation to paint. Our brief time here on earth has let me to search from here to there…hoping to chance upon the right time that says, “This is magnificent!” I have been moved to paint landscapes of native Ventura scenery, interior panoramas of Santa Cruz Island, winter scenes from upstate New York and vistas while driving up the California coast.

"Empty Tables and Other Settings"
March 4 - March 29, 2008 Reception: Friday., Mar. 7, 5 - 8 pm
Customs, cultures, and landscapes are the subjects of Robert Diehl’s solo exhibit titled Empty Tables and Other Settings. The painterly styled photographs captured in Europe and the United States portray life through images of the countryside and familiar objects. Many of the photographs reveal the hand of man without actually showing people present as in the series of images of empty tables. This collection of Diehl’s works highlights his curiosity and passion for discovery.

"Expressions"
March 7 - April 3, 2008
Reception: Friday, Mar. 7, 5 - 7 pm
Abstracted representational imagery painted in oils and in the form of organic materials is the primary subject matter of Buss’s work. Vines and flowers thread themselves across her canvases, cresting waves surge and fall; hazy suns and celestial star filled skies dance through out her work. Buss infuses the work with her own unique sense of naturalism. While utilizing these natural elements, the artist’s highly personal vision of geometric mark-making is revealed.

"The Season of Color" April 1 - April 26, 2008 Reception: Sat., April 5, 4 - 7 pm
I am influenced by the early California painters as well as the impressionists. My pallets are warm and sunny. Nature is at the forefront of all of my work. Most of my paintings depict scenes that may not be here forever. I also paint places that speak to my soul, that make me laugh inside and that make my heart jump with excitement. California scenery has been an inspiration to me for years. By capturing places on my canvas they remain timeless. I hope to bring sunshine and happiness to whomever looks at one!

"The Devils Gates and Other Gems"
April 2 - April 27, 2008
Reception: Friday., April 4, 5 - 8 pm
Artist Robert Wassell has been making art since the 1960’s. He has lived in Ventura since 1985 and has painted this area exclusively since then. He has gained a national reputation for his paintings of the Los Padres National Forest and the California Channel Islands. Like Ansel Adams Robert depicts a pristine wilderness with only a trail to show that man exists. Looking at one of Robert’s paintings one can believe that Europeans have yet to discover the new world. With brilliant color and bold brush strokes he gives an expressive view of his unique vision. Recently one of Wassell’s patrons described him as a national treasure.

Ventura Beach, the mighty Pacific and those amazing Channel Islandswho has a backyard any better than that? I feel so privileged to have spent forty years exploring the underwater wonders of those isles, and twenty years living at Pierpont Beach. The natural beauty and abundant wildlife that exists here provides an endless source of inspiration. I sincerely hope that I have managed to infuse my paintings and drawings with some of the magic that is so abundant in my own backyard.

May 27 - June 21, 2008 Reception: Friday, June 6, 5 - 8 pm
My paintings are an expression of inspirations from nature and my relationship to the landscape. Focusing on oil paintings of the Central and Southern California landscape that I grew up in, my images are painted in a realistic style, though my goal is to express my response to what I feel using colors from an idealized memory of the subjects I explore.

The incredible colors and patterns of the sky playing against the sea in New Zealand, Tasman Sea and Australian waters called a challenge to Dodds. The brilliance of the colors drove her to experiment with a new palette and different oil painting products her “comfort zone” or Safe Harbor had changed. This exhibit reflects those changes as well as the journey to her new Safe Harbor.

"Not Far from Here"
June 24 - July 19, 2008 Reception: Sat., June 28, 4 - 7 pm
I have always been inspired by the beauty of the California Central Coast where I have lived for the past forty years. Since picking up the paint brush six years ago I have painted primarily local land and seascapes. I have learned through various workshops and trial and error. I have found that not every painting is a masterpiece and that I am my own worst (best critic). Beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder. This show is my second at the BAA. Showing ones work is always a humbling, enlightening and exciting experience. Hopefully you will enjoy my current offerings.

"Ventura County Vistas"
Sept. 16 - Oct. 11, 2008 Reception: Sat., Sept. 20, 4 - 7 pm
In 1999 I needed some local photographs and couldn't find any that really captured the true beauty of Ventura County . I dusted off my camera and started taking photographs embarking on what was to become a minor (okay, major) obsession to capture the iconic scenes that define life in Ventura County. These images reflect that continuing quest.
