"Geometric Abstractions"
Feb. 6 - Mar. 3, 2007
Reception: Sat., Feb. 10, 4 - 7 pm

In creating these computer generated photographic prints, I was influenced by Henri Cartier-Bresson’s fondness for using a sense of geometry in his photographs. By using Adobe Photoshop exclusively, I have created these images by using the pen tool and a blank canvas. I am exploring the boundaries between the canvas and photographic prints while using mathematics to visually express my ideas.

" Morning Mist" acrylic on canvas

Marilyn Cahill
Buenaventura Gallery

"Skyscape Melodies"
Mar. 6 - Mar. 31, 2007
Reception: Sat., Mar. 10, 4 - 7 pm

Cahill starts each painting completely abstract. She then allows the painting to inform her of the particular subject. Her landscapes and trees move and sing to the skyscape as she paints.

"A Moment in Time: Coastal Waters and Shorelines"
Mar. 20 - April 16, 2007
Reception: Fri., March 23, 5 - 8 pm

Carver’s emotional response to the coastal waters and shorelines is translated in rich colors that allow the viewer to respond to her creative process. Other viewers might feel transported to the serenity and energy that our coastal waters exude – these experiences enrich our lives and lift our hearts, if only for a moment in time.

“Opening Night” Mixed-Media/Collage

Virginia Buckle
Buenaventura Gallery

April 3 - April 28, 2007
Reception: Sat., April 14, 4 - 7 pm

Her exhibit will showcase acrylic and mixed media/collage paintings, as well as sculptures that range in style from representational to abstract.  Her inspiration for the theme "All the World's a Stage" was born out of her acting experience, having appeared on stages throughout Ventura County.  Under her stage name of Virginia Streat, she has given life to the written word through the performing arts.  In this exhibit she seeks to portray the drama of life through painting and sculpture.

"Madeline" bronze

Lynn Creighton
Buenaventura Gallery

"Reclaiming the Sacred Source"
May 1 - May 26, 2007
Reception: Sat, May 5, 4 - 7 pm

These feminine forms are born of my love for clay: the substance of Earth Mother.  The magic of clay's capacity to stretch into and hold a form mirrors the magical ability of women to create life.  I love playing in that place until the energy I am looking for appears in the clay. I am joyful in the possibility that what I see and feel in the clay is becoming in and around be in my life.  What you see before you is the bronze finalization of my journey with the clay.

”Garden Party” wall-hangings/mixed media

"Does this Dress Make Me Look Fat? 1949" oil on canvas

Edward K. Hudson
Buenaventura Gallery

"Remember When: American Dreams Revisted"
June 26 - July 21, 2007
Reception: Sat., June 30, 4 -7 pm

Hudson’s traditional figurative oils do not represent just one time period – they almost appear to be large “snapshots,” an instant in time, a moment of human interaction caught in the middle of an action or a feeling or an event, whether that be 1890 or 1949.  Often the people in the paintings look at the viewer, drawing that viewer into the scene.

Lady Jan Faulkner
Buenaventura Gallery

Reception: Sat., July 28, 4 - 7 pm

Saturated with color and artfully composed, Lady Jan Faulkner's, Digitally Designed PhotoArt highlights numerous trips across the Pond and traipsing through our California Countryside. The images seen through Jan's lenses are given a new layer of artistry in this digital age. Her pieces are at once striking and friendly.

"A Collaged Assemblage: Images Dealing
with the Human Condition"
Aug 21 - Sept. 15, 2007
Reception: Sat., Aug 25, 4 - 7 pm

I’m interested in the juxtaposition of disparate elements to create new meaning.  Early on, I made a “Declaration of Artistic Independence” which has freed me to investigate many themes and ideas.  Grist for my artistic mill includes the following:  Social conditions, current events, manipulation of materials, word meanings, contradictions, humor, absurdities, and the formal aspects of art such as line, shape, texture, rhythm and balance.

Carpinteria Bluffs, oil on canvas

Gina Niebergall
Buenaventura Gallery

"California Landscapes"
Sept. 18 - Oct. 13, 2007
Reception: Sat., Sept. 22, 4 - 7 pm

As a fourth generation Californian, I’ve seen a lot of change.  I have always loved the unique qualities of the southern California landscape: from ocean to oaks to desert and farm land. I felt compelled to document my impression of it – as it continues to undergo numerous changes.

(See more of Niebergall's work)

Kim & Peter Binfield

"My Angel" watercolor on Yupo Paper

Elizabeth Miller
Buenaventura Gallery

"Brilliant Colors Achieved on Yupo Paper"
Nov. 13 - Dec. 8, 2007
Reception: Sat., Nov. 17, 4 - 7 pm

This exhibit presents a variety of subjects, ranging from realistic landscapes and florals to abstract work.  The common thread connecting all the images on exhibit is that all of them are painted on YUPO “paper”, which is a relatively little known surface.  YUPO is not really a paper, but a synthetic sleek impenetrable surface incapable of absorbing water, thus forcing the paint to float on its surface.

Janet Black
Harbor Village Gallery

"Face Value: Expressions in Collage"
Dec. 11, 2007 - Jan. 12, 2008
Reception: Thurs., Dec. 13, 5 - 7 pm

Current works exhibit her desire to use the medium of collage in a painterly manner, rendering strokes of color with a variety of papers, generating form and value by tearing and layering instead of brushing.

Gallery receptions are free to the public. Call (805) 648-1235 for more information.
