May 31 - June 25, 2005
Reception: Sat., June 4, 4 - 7 pm
The paintings are inspired by my collection of pottery, paperweights, flowers and other potpourri.
Still life continues to fascinate me. The textures and folds of fabrics and the varying finishes on pottery keep me endlessly busy and interested. These images will measure 4 inches square and smaller.

"The Ventura Wilderness Trail"
June 28 - July 23, 2005
Reception: Sat., July 9, 4 - 7 pm
The subject matter for my work is the backcountry of Ventura County, Santa Barbara County, and the Channel Islands. I backpack through the local mountains carrying my sketchpad in my backpack. I have painted this area exclusively for 20 years. I document the local mountains, streams, canyons, and islands. I depict wilderness, so the only mark of man that you can see in my work is a trail or dirt road.

"Photographic Illusions"
July 26 - August 20, 2005
Reception: Sat.,July 30, 4 - 7 pm
The subjects for my photographs are captured on film with the lens of a camera. They are enlarged from the negatives using traditional darkroom techniques.
The resulting prints are anything but traditional. The bold and colorful abstract images allow the viewer to engage with the art on their own terms, bringing their personal experience to it and suggesting their own interpretation.

"A Portion of Territory"
August 23 - September 17, 2005
Reception: Sat., August 27, 4 - 7 pm
Webster's dictionary defines the word landscape as "a portion of territory that the eye can comprehend in a single view." I have used the subject of landscape in these paintings, taken from local environments to travels abroad. Traditional terrains are delineated by simplifying the contours and shapes of the landscape design. These forms are painted with expressive brushstrokes and vivid colors. I've explored pushing into abstraction, yet still using representational forms. Color also becomes an exploration of going beyond realism. The paintings are capturing "a portion of territory" with color and form for the viewer to grasp a fresh, joyful look at the designs of nature.
