Brent Hanson
Saturation
May 2 - May 28
Artist's Reception: Friday, May 4
5 - 8 pm
Brent Hanson’s paintings reflect the dichotomy of the peaks and valleys of his life experiences. On one hand, using vibrant color, light and shadow, non-representational abstraction and abstraction of natural beauty he conveys a sense of hope, richness, and playfulness. On the other hand, he uses black and white abstraction, along with surrealism to express dreams and emotions resulting from life’s challenges… work stress, loss of loved ones, and coping with his own demons.

Games People Play: You Don't Bring Me Flowers Anymore
August 22 - September 17
Artist's Reception: Friday, August 24
5 - 8 pm
This show uses games we all might recognize from our youth to express the many layers of human feelings and interaction be it good, bad or both at the same time.
Incorporating the use of game boards or game symbols, I explore on canvas, the humorous and dark topics of life’s trials and tribulations through the use of oil.
Life is a constant changing and growing experience, this show is an expression of my continuing maturity as an artist.

I have been an artist for 30 years. At the beginning of my career, I began working two dimensional, emphasizing in printmaking, painting and ceramics with an MFA from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NewYork. For the past 15 years my passion has been working in clay. I am an intuitive artist and clay is the best medium that expresses my emotions and spiritual life. Through the process of working with clay I get in touch with my inner self. I enjoy creating something real for people to see. I usually start creating a vase or an object and slowly discover possibilities for interesting works. I truly admire archaeological relics, the human experience and nature. I reflect upon that. Sometimes the final result is a surprise for myself. It is the process work that counts!

We travel through time and space. Each moment is connected to all others, and also stands alone. A painting can capture a moment, engaging our eyes, emotions, and physical sensations. The wind blows a garment. Stillness reigns at an ancient monument or in a meadow. Space opens before us; focus closes in. Light, shadow, texture and temperature are guided by the local color.
Watercolor is a medium that challenges us. How much do we control? How much control do we relinquish? The unexpected effect can vitalize a painting. For the artist, hard work and play are combined, as hours pass unnoticed. It is a delight to travel around the world and find universal moments that inspire.
