Artist's Reception:

"I just returned from a beautiful December Sunday morning painting session in La Jolla Canyon, Point Mugu. The day was crisp and sunny. Yesterday was dreary and rainy, but I never mind the wet days…Spring is around the corner. Sounds very optimistic in these days of economic melt down and H1N1. I am a native Californian. Although, I am not pleased at the over population and development, there are still many places you can find the unspoiled beauty of our state. My paintings reflect my impressions of my surroundings. Most of my paintings are done plein air and are spontaneous and true to the moment. If you look closely some contain plant and insect remnants. The larger works are done primarily in the studio where I can focus on the color and composition without changing light and climate."

"Reflecting on Waves"

July 14 - August 8, 2010

Artist's Reception:
Friday, July 16, 2010
5 - 8 pm

Water is colorless.  And yet, it can take on the colors of the light that is shown through it or reflected upon it.

In Southern California, we are blessed with a beautiful coastline. Every day, waves generated sometimes thousands of miles away breaks upon our shore. No two waves are exactly alike. Approaching the shore, they rise from the surface, crest and then extinguish themselves on the sandy or rocky shore. As soon as one disappears, another is there to take its place in this endless cycle of nature. Photographing at dawn, using slow shutter speeds and camera motion that moves with the wave, he tries to catch the shape of the wave and the light that reflects off its surface creating lasting impressions of a subject that we often take for granted.

Missing You

Mary-Jo Murphy

"Whimsical Wags...
Where Art Meets Bark"

August 11 - September 5, 2010

Artist's Reception:
Friday, August 13
5 - 8 pm

Have you ever looked into the eyes of a furry or feathered creature and imagined that they were just about to speak to you? Their body language tells you that they understand something important that could make the world or your view of it more compassionate and joyful.
"What?" you say, but they remain silent.
Their voices are not limited by words.
Their wisdom remains unspoken but not uncommunicated.

This is the Place

"A Sense of Place"

September 8 to October 10, 2010

Artist's Reception:
Friday, September 10
5 - 8 pm

Driving through Ventura County, I ask, “Isn’t this a beautiful place in which to live?” Resoundingly, I hear, “Yes, it is!” So it follows that I paint what to me is noticeable, pleasing to the eye and something that expresses the attractive, the recognizable, and the familiar. I paint with warm watercolors using strong notes of pure pigment. My work is complete when I see that it has A SENSE OF PLACE.

Join me for the Reception, Friday, September 10th, 2010, from 5-8. Come to the Gallery any day it is open, September 8 through October 10, afternoons Wednesday through Monday, 12-5. Personally, I plan to be there often. Owning an original work of art by a local artist is exciting and will always be a reminder of the amazing beauty around us.

Universal Being

Dorothea Heger

Poetry Reading 6.30 pm

“If I just close my eyes slowly,
And synchronize my breathing,
Perhaps I will know the sacred stillness
Of nature’s holy rhythm and
universal being.”

Louisa Angeli

Dorothea Heger’s intention in creating semi-abstract paintings for this solo exhibit was to combine poetry and art.  “Universal Whispers” is the first exhibit in collaboration with poet Louisa Angeli. Ten of the paintings were inspired by Angeli’s poems, which express relational and existential themes that we sometimes face in life. Some of the elements are grief, acceptance, love and hope. Each poem called for certain colors and shapes. Heger’s desire was to capture the spirit of the poem. To accomplish this she chose bright colored inks or acrylics on watercolor and rice paper or illustration board. She invites the viewer to take a journey to a place of serenity guided by color and words.
