Dan LaVigne has been a professional artist since receiving his bachelor’s in fine arts in 1981. A chance to study under American impressionist Dan McCaw at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena awakened him to the richness and flexibility of oil. It has continued to be his primary medium for the past twenty three years. As an illustrator he has been called upon repeatedly to work in the style of the French Impressionists for various clients, including Architectural Digest and Royal K.L.M. Airlines. His work is defined by sensitivity to his subject and an eye for color. He has used it to describe subjects ranging from the Hollywood Bowl to a simple bowl of lemons.
Since receiving his Masters in Fine Arts from California State University Long Beach in 1991, Dan has presented his work in numerous group and one man shows up and down the west coast. Since moving to Ventura in 2001, he has become a prominent fixture in the arts community, contributing work for the Ventura Music Festival, the Carnegie Museum in Oxnard, and the Ventura Cultural Affairs Division. He is currently the President of the Buenaventura Art Association and a member of Oil Painters of America. He and his wife Ronda live in Mandalay Shores.
